Co-management processes illustrate some of the current characteristics of the relationships between indigenous peoples and the state in Canada. This article discusses the workings of a forest co-management institution between the Innu Nation and the provincial government of Newfoundland and Labrador based on two examples: the loss of a communal tent and the management of a forest infestation. These examples demonstrate different ideas of responsibility among participants of the co-management process, showing its limitations.
