This note presents the results of an analysis of freshwater mollusk shells (Diplodon chilensis patagonicus) recovered from the lower cultural component of the Angostura 1 archaeological site (General Conesa District, Rio Negro Province, Argentina). Primarily, morphological features of this assemblage were analyzed, including: laterality, size, state of fracture, and the presence of periostracum. Secondarily, burning evidence and spatial relationships were considered. Site formation processes linked to human activity are discussed in light of these results and the contextual information from the site, i.e., mollusk shells associated with other archaeological remains (lithics, pottery, bones, and organic remains). It is proposed that the presence of freshwater mollusk shells in Angostura 1 site is linked to human activity.
