Within the framework of a broader research about ceramic technology of hunters-gatherers of the north coast of Chubut, a comparative petrographic analysis of ceramic pastes from three sectors of the province: coast, central-north plateau and lower-middle Chubut river valley, was carried out. The aim of this work was to explore the local or no-local provenance of the raw materials and to evaluate the probable exchange or circulation of this technology. The results show that most of the containers were made with the local raw materials from each area. However, in the coast and in the central-north plateau some no-local pieces were identified, which probably come from central-south Chile. These data would reveal that the hunters-gatherers would not have carried the pottery or the raw materials for their production during the movements between the different environments and also that some foreign pieces were introduced in the study area and circulate in very large spatial scales.
