ALUNNI, Daniela Verónica. Transporte y consumo de guanacos por cazadores-recolectores marítimos del canal Beagle durante el Holoceno medio: El caso de Imiwaia I. Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2016, vol.17, n.2, pp.251-261. ISSN 1850-373X.
We present a study on transport, butchering and consumption strategies of guanaco (Lama guanicoe) during the middle Holocene on the north coast of Beagle Channel (Tierra del Fuego, Argentina). This study was conducted on faunal remains recovered from Imiwaia I archaeological site. We discuss these strategies considering the current guanaco's behavior, and also the distribution and types of lipids provided by this resource. The obtained results suggest that marine huntergatherers developed these strategies through broad space ranges, and that they butchered carcasses intensely for meat and marrow consumption. These data provide valuable information about subsistence, mobility and use of space by people who inhabited the shores of the Beagle Channel.
