POLITIS, Gustavo G et al. Análisis y datación de los restos faunísticos de la colección Ameghino del sitio Cañada Rocha (Luján, provincia de Buenos Aires). Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2019, vol.20, n.2, pp.181-194. ISSN 1850-373X.

ANALYSIS AND DATING OF THE FAUNISTIC COLLECTION OF THE CAÑADA ROCHA SITE (DE LUJÁN, BUENOS AIRES PROVINCE). Bone remains from the Ameghino collection deposited in the La Plata Museum from the Cañada Rocha site are analyzed. Two new dates, physicochemical analysis, and new isotopic results performed on 12 samples of the collection are presented. The discussion of these results indicates that these samples are not reliable for dating since the contamination and the state of preservation of the collagen from the bones are not adequate for radiocarbon dating. It is concluded that the bone deposit of Cañada Rocha shows different taphonomic histories, with evidence of water action and transport, and that the dates available for the site, which do not comply with the indicators of conservation of the isotopic signal, cannot be used to estimate the chronology of the deposit or to support the persistence of guanacos through the fifteenth century in the Pampa Ondulada. As a corollary, the dating of collection materials with long histories of deposit manipulation and preservation, as well as the uncritical use of results, are warned against.
