It is necessary to strengthen the continuous training of university teachers oriented to Virtual Learning Environments (VLE), as a way to provide a solution to the continuity of the academic year in times of COVID-19. The objective is to diagnose the state of the preparation of teachers, on issues related to VLE. An exploratory study was carried out at the University of Medical Sciences of Sancti Spíritus during the years 2020 and 2021, using the respective theoretical, empirical and statistical-mathematical methods. The theoretical study and empirical exploration allowed to identify legal information that supports continuous training, absence of training activities in AVA, corroborating the inexistence of a continuous training process aimed at training teachers, being insufficient the use of the virtual platform, the methodological activities that promote the use of VLEs, teacher competencies and the verification of the preparation of teachers in VLE. It is concluded that the training actions in VLE, the perception of the need for use, the use in pedagogical practice and the technological culture in teachers are insufficient, which puts at risk the execution of the academic course assisted by VLE, in times of COVID-19.
