Currently it is considered that the historical and archaeological heritage not only refers to the past, but it is also related to the identities of the present groups, whose socio-historical trajectory is quite diverse. These processes have resulted in sets of evaluations which attribute to objects an historical, cultural, ritual, and emotional baggage, among others, an aspect that does not exclude scientific practices. The tasks of reflected in the management of collections that come from more than a century of acquisition practices, such as the collection of the Instituto de Arqueología y Museo de la Facultad de CienciasNaturales, e Instituto Miguel Lillo, Universidad Nacional de Tucumán. From the study of the Archaeological Collection of said institution, and works published about this subject, we propose to carry out a set of reflections on the role of objects around the processes of acquisition of collectibles.In relation to this, we incorporate the concept of agency from a contextual approach, which admits multiple modalities in its capacity for action, considering that it can change over time. This approach aims to move away from the classic dichotomies between subjects and objects, so we propose an active role for the latter in the practices that involve their selection, collection, acquisition and documentation.
