ETCHEZAHAR, Edgardo; JAUME, Luis; BIGLIERI, Jorge  e  CERVONE, Nélida. Dogmatism: closed system beliefs, authoritarianism and intolerance. Anu. investig. [online]. 2013, vol.20, n.1, pp.207-210. ISSN 1851-1686.

The concept of dogmatism theorized by Rokeach (1960) emerged as an alternative to the development of the authoritarian personality by Adorno et al. (1950) whose theory of the authoritarian phenomenon confined to the right wing political orientation. Rokeach (1960) studies the phenomenon of dogmatism as the convergence of three closely related sets of variables: belief systems, authoritarianism and intolerance. This perspective meeting focused people's beliefs, and its purpose was to analyze the levels of tolerance of an individual to others who think differently. Thus, the theoretical proposal of Rokeach (1960) allowed to analyze whether individuals defending their dogmatic beliefs, regardless of their content (e.g. scientific, religious, political). The aim of this paper was to analyze the different components of dogmatism and intolerance particularly authoritarianism (Duckitt, 2010).

Palavras-chave : Dogmatism; Authoritarianism; Intolerance; Closed system beliefs.
