COTTET, Agustina C.  e  MESSUTI, María I.. New distribution records for the flora of mosses (Bryophyta) from Patagonia, Argentina. Bol. Soc. Argent. Bot. [online]. 2023, vol.58, n.2, pp.4-4.  Epub 01-Jun-2023. ISSN 1851-2372.  http://dx.doi.org/110.31055/1851.2372.v58.n2.39712.

Background and aims: Although the moss flora of Argentina has been extensively studied, there are still unrecorded or unknown environments and taxa. The objective of this work is to present new records of mosses in five provinces that conform the Argentine Patagonia.

M&M: The material studied was collected, organized and examined according to the techniques traditionally used for bryophytes. An annotated list of species is presented with notes on distribution and material studied.

Results: Distribution novelties are presented for 46 species of mosses, distributed in 37 genera, belonging to 21 families. Fifteen species are reported for the first time for the province of Neuquén, 16 for Río Negro, 17 for Chubut, 15 for Santa Cruz and four for Tierra del Fuego, Antártida e Islas del Atlántico Sur. Among the species found, some are reported for more than one Patagonian province.

Conclusions: The amount of distribution novelties presented here demonstrate the value of carrying out floristic studies in the southern region of the country. These surveys contribute to increase the knowledge of the distribution and occurrence of different taxa in environments scarcely explored in Argentina.
