NEUMAIER, LFT et al. PRIMARY CUTANEOUS MELANOMA IN THE POPULATION OF THE CENTRAL AREA OF RIO GRANDE DO SUL. EPIDEMIOLOGICAL AND HISTOPATHOLOGICAL PROFILE. Rev. argent. dermatol. [online]. 2018, vol.99, n.3, pp.11-20.  Epub 30-Set-2018. ISSN 1851-300X.

Introduction: cutaneous melanoma is considered one of the most aggressive cutaneous neoplasms with a big metastatic potential. Patterns of involvement vary according to the environmental risk factors and genetic characteristics of a population. Objectives: characterize the epidemiological profile and describe histopathological data of patients diagnosed with cutaneous melanoma by pathological reports of the Pathology Laboratory of the Santa Maria's Federal University. Methods: retrospective analytical study using described data in pathology reports from January 2013 to June 2015. Results: a total of 49 cases were analyzed, the majority has between 70-79 years old (28,6%) and were women (59%). The LMM predominated (36,7%) and 45% of the cases affected the head and neck. The majority of the cases were in situ (32,7%), the main presentation in females. Conclusions: this study showed a different epidemiology patterns from those previously described in national literature. There were a greater number of cases of LMM, which led to a biggest prevalence of older age groups and head and neck lesions. Several times, the classification of the patients' phototype was not described by the physician who performed the procedure. This study did not use the patients' records, so there was relevant information loss.
