The alcohol production from sugar cane has been promoted by an initiative taken from the Argentinian Government with the objective to develop a law to stimulate the production, commercialization and consume of alcohols fuels. In Tucuman, these alcohols are produced from sugar cane molasses. This is the reason why in the chemistry lab of EEAOC posed the need to ensure reliability of the information provided to customers through the evaluation of the different methods to determine the per cent of sucrose and total reducing sugars in molasses. This work present a comparative study among the High Performance Liquid Cromatography (HPLC), the analytical method of Clerget to determine the per cent of sucrose and the Lane and Eynon method to determine total reducing sugars in molasses of different sugar mills from Tucuman. The results showed a good precision of the Clerget method compared with HPLC determination, whereas that the Lane Eynon method showed a medium accuracy compared with the HPLC method.
