CALZON, M. E.  e  GIMENEZ, A. M.. Assessing the dendrochronolical potential of tipa colorada as a tool for forest management in the Yungas of Salta (Argentina). Quebracho (Santiago del Estero) [online]. 2011, vol.19, n.1, pp.5-13. ISSN 1851-3026.

Tipa colorada (Pterogynenitens Tul) Fabacea, Cesalpinoidea spreads along the wet environments of the Salta-Jujuy transitional jungle. This paper aimed to characterize growth rings, analyze annual increases and determine the cut biological turn in terms of the basal diameter (DAB). Fifteen slices from the base of trees with a DBH higher than 40 cm were selected. On each sample the growth rings were identified, counted, dated and measured on two perpendicular diameters. The wood shows diffuse porosity; the growth rings are seen with naked eyes and finish in a light band. At microscopic level, they are delimited by marginal parenchyma bands of 2-3 cell. The 1964-1990 monthly average rainfall was correlated with the average common increase (AI). The highest positive correlating coefficients correspond to the October-December period, the season following the total foliage change and preceding floration and coincident to the dry-rainy transition. The longest rings series is that of 37 years. The biological rotation age is reached at 33 years old, with 37,02 cm of diameter, an average growth of 11,219 mm. The minimal cut diameter, 40 cm, is reached at the age of 37 years.
