PEREIRA, E.; FLORES, D.  e  CASTILLO, M.. Characterizing the woody flora of the main urban green spaces of Táriba parish, Cárdenas municipality, Táchira state, Venezuela. Quebracho (Santiago del Estero) [online]. 2019, vol.27, n.2, pp.108-108.  Epub 01-Out-2019. ISSN 0328-0543.

Nowadays, the city of Táriba presents problems related to the deterioration of its main green spaces due to the lack of adequate maintenance and the absence of control and inventory of the existing flora. In this sense, the present investigation aims to characterize the trees and bushes of main urban green spaces in the civil township of Táriba. To achieve this, a census was made of the present species, both arboreal and shrubby in the main green spaces of the civil township (Avenue 1, the 12 of February Park, Plaza Bolívar, Plaza Miranda and Plaza Sucre) by observing, taking photographs, collecting and herborizing samples for later identification. It was registered 1414 individuals of 75 botanical species; being 54.5 % trees and 45.5 % shrubs. Regarding their biogeographical origin, 64.43 % of the species are exotic; 26.45 % non-native and 9.12 % native. The data obtained make an inventory of woody plants in the main green spaces of Táriba available. The use of native species is low, especially of those proper to the Andean region. These results will serve as the basis for a better selection of plant species and their improved management.

Palavras-chave : Urban flora; Táriba parish; urban parks; native trees; non-native trees; exotic trees.
