PALACIO, M. O.. Woody flora of importance for native bees in Figueroa Department, Santiago del Estero. Quebracho (Santiago del Estero) [online]. 2021, vol.29, n.1, pp.71-77. Epub 01-Nov-2021. ISSN 0328-0543.
Forests are the habitat for native bees and contribute to the development of their colonies by offering not only floral rewards but also substrate for nesting. The objective the paper was to know the native woody species of the local flora that intervene in the life of the stingless bees and the type of participation. In the native forests of the Figueroa Department, Santiago del Estero, stingless bees' nests and of pecoreadoras in the phenophase of their flowering process were located to determine the type of reward that the plants offer (i.e., nectar, pollen or resins). Plant material was collected herbarized, determined and stored in the Herbarium of the “Ing. Ftal. Lucas D. Roic” Botanical Garden. Forty-eight woody species (trees, shrubs, sub-shrubs, cacti, and lianas) that belong to 16 families and 38 genera of Angiosperms and that offer some kind of reward were cataloged: 40 % of the species offer nectar and pollen as a reward. The information provided in this paper represents a novel contribution in the subject for the province, and it is expected that it can be used in the development of promotional and training actions on the breeding of native bees.
