The ideological dimension of the Revolution of May 1810, its implications and meaning, as well as the movement of ideas put forward by the actions of its protagonists, has been one of the elements of the national past most discussed by the argentinian historiography. Thus, the alleged predominance of certain ideological strands at the base of revolutionary thought gave rise to different historiographical versions emerged at specific moments of the historical development of the country, which cannot be ignored if we are to make an explanatory approach to the subject. We believe that a wealth of ideas and different political vocabularies were gathered at the thought of the "men of May", from both the artwork and the Hispanic tradition in its various aspects. The making of each of them as the dominant has been a later historiographical exercise product. In this paper we analyze different images that on the revolutionary process were built over time on the basis of maintaining the preeminence of either ideological side. Finally, we will attempt to show the diversity of political ideas in force in the imaginary of that time, in itself diverse and complex as the interpretation of the revolutionary movement.
