The frame analysiswas part of the"cultural turn" thatoccurredin the early'80sin the sociologyof collective actionandthat includedthe appreciationofthe symbolic dimension ofthe actionin studies ofthe social construction oftheprotest,gaining analyticalimportance the aspects like thesymbolic productionof movements. Whiletheir approacheshave been widelyappreciated for theirreconsiderationof the cultural aspectsof collective action, they were the subject ofa series ofreviewsfrom othertheoriesalsoattentive tothe production of meaningininstancesofsocial mobilization andpolitical communication. In these pageswe will presentbrieflythe ideaof"collective frames" and examinethe main criticisms ofthe proposalsof theframe analysisfromauthorswho promotediscourse analysisand narrativeof collective actionand others french authors influencedby pragmatic theory. From thesereviews we aim to providesome considerationstokeep in mind torenovate andimprove thisanalytical perspectiveof the cultural aspectsof collective action.
