CROVETTO, Norberto E.  e  ZEOLLA, Nicolás Hernán. Criticism of the classical theory of comparative advantages and the origins of one's own thought. An analysis of the roots of Latin American structuralism. Ciclos hist. econ. soc. [online]. 2018, vol.29, n.50, pp.1-20. ISSN 1851-3735.

The founding principles of Latin-American economic ideas were European. The Italian and Spanish mercantilist doctrine, combined with the novel thoughts of physiocracy and the classical economists were the most influential approach to follow after the independency revolutions. However, the adoption of newly ideas were not doctrinaire or irreflexive. Latin America has witness systematic and continuous efforts to develop its own economic thinking, which its highest point was the latinamerican structuralist school of thought. This efforts can be tracked since the pioneering economic ideas of Manuel Belgrano, Juan Carlos Mariategui and Alejandro Bunge, between others. The common starting point was the rejection of the comparative advantage classical theory of commerce for later consider the historical determination of the economic structure, the asymmetrical impact of the economic cycle between the advanced and peripheral economies, and the existence of a balance of payment constraint in the economic policy making.
