NUNEZ, Carlos Eduardo. Fiber morphology of the wood of eucalyptus grandis growing in the Argentinean mesopotamia: 5 - Fiber anatomy of tension wood. Rev. cienc. tecnol. [online]. 2011, n.15, pp.38-42. ISSN 1851-7587.

As part of the study of fiber morphology of Eucalyptus grandis trees from the Argentine Mesopotamia, we analyzed wood at breast height of two individuals from Concordia, Entre Ríos Province, with considerable asymmetry in their transverse cut sections. With this purpose, two radii were chosen: the shorter one from normal wood and the longer one, from tension wood. The fiber parameters of macerated material were analyzed and the results showed no significant differences in either fiber length and width or wall thickness. The values found for tree number 1 were 917 and 933, 14.0 and 13.9, and 2.9 and 2.9 respectively for both types of wood, whereas those for tree number 2 were 933 and 933, 14.3 and 14.2, and 2.8 and 2.8 respectively. The comparison between frequency distributions did not show variations either. It can be concluded that for the trees studied, there are no significant differences in the morphological parameters between normal and tension wood.
