VON SPECHT, Martha H; QUIROGA ZINGARETTI, Adriana  e  GRENON, Sandra L. Antibiotic resistance profiles and presence of sea gene in Staphylococcus aureus from ambiental origen in Posadas, Misiones. Rev. cienc. tecnol. [online]. 2013, n.20, pp.61-67. ISSN 1851-7587.

The aims of this study were to make a survey of antibiotic resistance (R) in a series of 64 S. aureus isolates from food (36) and food handlers (28) and to determine the frequency of enterotoxin A gene (sea) in Posadas. R was determined by disk diffusion and MICs according to M100-S21 CLSI guidelines. Detection of the genes encoding methicillin (MET) resistance (mecA) and the staphylococcal enterotoxin A (sea) were made by PCR technique. The R was low (MET: 2/64, both from handlers, gentamicin, GEN: 2/64; clindamycin and erythromycin, CLI + ERI: 3/64). R was not detected in: trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, VAN, rifampin or minocycline. Four resistance profiles (MET, GEN, GEN + MET; ERI + CLI) were found. The mecA gene was confirmed in 2 isolates and sea gene in ten: six from food handlers and four from food, none of which were MET-R. Our results highlight the importance of surveillance of environmental S. aureus resistance and molecular detection of enterotoxin A. These findings make a point of potential risk, unprecedented in our area.
