BORGES VAZ, Erika. STUDY OF POTTERY MANUFACTURE IN THE NORTH COAST OF SAN MATÍAS GULF (RÍO NEGRO PROVINCE). Relaciones [online]. 2018, vol.43, n.2, pp.1-15. ISSN 0325-2221.

This paper presents the preliminary results of the pottery study from archeological localities Bajo de la Quinta and Saco Viejo. These are chronologically associated with human occupation contexts dated between ca. 1040-420 years B P. The technological choices involved in the pottery production are evaluated from the macroscopic analysis, examination with a binocular magnifer and experimental tests. The complementarity of the dififerent applied methodologies has allowed to infer dififerential technical behaviors carried out in some stages of the operational chain of the studied sets, mainly in the pastes preparation, and decoration. Also, it has been possible to verify the suitable conditions of the local raw materials for the production of this technology. Additionally, the use alterations suggest that the pottery containers were involved in domestic tasks for food processing.

Palavras-chave : pottery - technological choices - norpatagonian coast - final Late Holocene.
