The crisis and social upheaval of 2001 are a watershed in the history of Argentina, a condensation of elements from the past coming to an end, leading in turn effects will last longer, leaving their imprints in the present. By analyzing the trajectories of two of its central characters, President Fernando de la Rúa and Economy Minister Domingo F. Cavallo discussed in this article the reasons of exhaustion and collapse of an economic model and certain forms of political action, engendered in the sixties and had survived, with some mutations, to date. Also show how these events opened spaces for change but have been insufficient to generate, so far, the emergence of other paradigms that substitute fully, recognizing that failure traces of the past is still present, especially in the way of politics, the low turnover dirigencial and fragility of «new model» economy.
