ACEVEDO, Agustín et al. Rock art of Corcovo 2 and the production of head-mask figures motifs in southern Mendoza (Argentina): an approach from the concept of territoriality. Rev. Mus. Antropol. [online]. 2023, vol.16, n.3, pp.7-22.  Epub 28-Dez-2023. ISSN 1852-060X.  http://dx.doi.org/10.31048/1852.4826.v16.n2.40049.

This paper presents a detailed characterization of the rock art of site Corcovo 2 (southern Mendoza, Argentina), a set of engraved boulders which stands out for the high frequency of head-mask figures motifs. In the region under study, these motifs form a rather unexplored and fragmentary corpus of information. However, in nearby regions they have been systematically studied and linked to territorial practices (e.g. Tandilia and Ventania). To test this hypothesis in the region under study, we combine the information recorded at Corcovo 2 with that available for the head-mask figures motifs of the entire southern Mendoza region. The results obtained show links between sites with head-mask figures motifs and spaces with certain characteristics which lead us to think about the existence of territorial demarcation practices fostered by the great economic and social changes that have occurred in the region during the last 2000 years of human occupation.
