More than five years ago, we started a line of work to strengthen the links between the fields of scientific production and those of archaeological heritage management, with a focus on the different North Patagonian state jurisdictions. Within the framework of agreed work agendas with the national and provincial public institutions responsible for the application of heritage laws, we carried out two digital archeology projects of different characteristics: the Digital Platform for Archaeological Heritage Management of the Province of Río Negro and the Plan for Digitization of Archaeological Collections of the Museum of Patagonia (PNNH-APN). In this paper we present a critical evaluation of these experiences: their successes, the objectives achieved, as well as the difficulties and new work goals . In this way, we put at the center of the discussion how, within the framework of public policies aimed at guaranteeing access to rights and social inclusion, the objectives of an open digital archeology stress in practice, with the effective implementation by the state administrations. In the case of the Digital Platform of the province of Río Negro, although an innovative development was achieved with the creation of a digital web tool, it remains for the agencies in charge of its operation to strengthen the areas responsible for its management, as well as intergovernmental work to consolidate digital heritage management as a long-term public policy. In the case of the Museo de la Patagonia Digitization Plan, the creation of a specific workspace and the number of digitized and inventoried pieces exceeded the initial expectations of the project, managing to consolidate the digitization of collections as a stable management program within the Museum of Patagonia and the Nahuel Huapi National Park. Thus, we approach reflections from archaeological practice around the present and future challenges of the digital transition, in a territory of northern Patagonia.
