LANZA CASTELLI, Gustavo  e  BILBAO BILBAO, Itziar. A method to assess mentalization and its contribution to psychotherapy practice. Subj. procesos cogn. [online]. 2017, vol.21, n.2, pp.82-108. ISSN 1852-7310.

In this work we present a tool to assess mentalization, which we consider most useful for psychotherapeutic work leading to awareness concerning the dynamics of the patient, regardless of the therapist´s theoretical framework. This tool is based on two constructs that are common to different orientations in the field of psychotherapy: mentalization and relationship pattern. In this work we accomplish a characterization of both constructs, after which we present the mentioned tool (the Method for the Evaluation of Mentalization in the Interpersonal Context) (MEMCI). Then we analyze in some detail clinical material produced by application of the MEMCI and show information -of clinical relevance -which can be obtained by this procedure. Finally, we propose a clinical procedure based on the MEMCI that shows another application of this tool to the practice of psychotherapy.
