PINCHEIRA-DONOSO, Daniel. A new species of the genus Phymaturus (Iguania: Tropiduridae: Liolaemini) from central-southern Chile. Multequina [online]. 2004, vol.13, n.2, pp.57-70. ISSN 1852-7329.
Phymaturus vociferator is described as a new species of iguanian lizard, from central- southern Chile, related to P. verdugo from Peteroa Volcano region, Malargüe, Mendoza Province. The only known population comes from El Refugio, Laguna del Laja, in Antuco Volcano mountains, about 1700 m, close to the Argentinean frontier, in the Andean region of the Bio Bio Region. Morphological characters, pattern of coloration, and their isolated distribution, separate this new taxon from the other species of the genus. It is a member of the flagellifer species group, diagnosed by the presence of short superciliaries scales, with five or more suboculars, three or four rows of lorilabials, the simphisial scute narrower than rostral, commonly in contact with sublabials, and with caudal spines abruptly developed. Phymaturus vociferator has previously been confused with Phymaturus flagellifer (= P. palluma).
