MORENO, Gabriela; MARTINEZ CARRETERO, Eduardo; DUPLANCIC, Andrea  e  ALCALA, Jorge. Frequency of different sizes of particulate material in leaves of Morus alba in the urban forest of Mendoza (Argentina). Multequina [online]. 2016, vol.25, n.1, pp.05-12. ISSN 1852-7329.

Plants improve the air quality by adsorbing particulate matter (PM) on leaf surfaces. In this study the particulate material deposited on M. alba leaves was evaluated considering location (urban, suburban and periurban) and period of the year (summer, spring, autumn) in the Mendoza city. Gravimetric method was used to obtain particulate material and by optic microscope lecture the frequency of sizes: 2-5 µm, 6-10 µm, 11-18 µm and = 19 µm. In general, fie particles prevail with greater frequencies in downtown Mendoza associated to a greater vehicular activity. Coarse particles sediment near the emission point increasing toward the suburbs, and are related to soil particles. Morus alba resulted an adequate bioindicator of pollution in the urban environment.

Palavras-chave : Particulate material (PM); Frequency; Size; Urban forest.
