VEDOYA, Santiago P. Mechanical failures in unstable hip fractures treated with DHS plates and Dimon technique. Rev. Asoc. Argent. Ortop. Traumatol. [online]. 2010, vol.75, n.2, pp.137-143. ISSN 1852-7434.
Background: Almost half of the hip fractures have an unstable pattern, which is defined by the lesser trochanter involvement. Although the treatment of these fractures is contested, the need to mobilize patients as soon as possible led to the development of specific surgical techniques. Methods: This paper analyzes Dimon technique's mechanical failures and complications, in 78 patients who underwent surgery in our service. Results: In 7 patients the treatment failed, and they were divided in two groups: Surgical technique errors and mechanical failures. Conclusions: the impossibility to impact the fracture site plays an essential role in the prognosis. Therefore, all aspects that could guaranty a stable but dynamic system should be considered.
