Resumo

This article aims to examine the role of the actor in the video-art and its new ways of representation and redefinition in the scope of a media that has been originally reactionary. Video art has rejected the traditional audiovisual canons and has annihilated, partially or totally, the actor´s participation, since its canonical functionality has overcome the limits in the traditional audiovisual industry, moving its narrative and dramatic work, to become a plastic and aesthetic resource. Moreover, the present work investigates the transposition of the role of the actor towards the video art spectator. The actor takes on a role as a symbolic figure, and begins to be questioned not because of the identification processes, but rather because of the interpretation of its signifier. Also because of the video art particular narrative constructions, film editing and production processes the spectator has the need to fill the lack of information, becoming himself the actor that builds and passes the work.
