LATTANZI, Juan Pablo. La crisis de las grandes narrativas del arte en el audiovisual latinoamericano: apuntes sobre el cine experimental latinoamericano en las décadas de 1960 y 1970. Cuad. Cent. Estud. Diseñ. Comun., Ensayos [online]. 2015, n.52, pp.71-80. ISSN 1853-3523.

According to the statement made by Arthur Danto in After the End of Art, to the 70s of the last century and in synchrony with the discussion of the "postmodern condition" (F. Lyotard) the era of the big art narratives is coming to an end; it is also the end of those stories that tried to legitimize a particular style or aesthetic trend over others. In this context, and alined with manifestations like conceptual art, pop art or happenings that were frequent in other arts (visual arts, dance, theater) - the existence of marginal products not governed by the traditional film narrative are observed in the Latin American audiovisual of the '60s and '70s. These productions put into question the very nature of the media from exploring their limits and boundaries. Located towards the end of what Danto called modern art period, have a doubly marginal character: due to its location they are marginal to the production centers located in the core countries. At the same time, they are located on the margins of the local industries themselves. The hypothesis of this study is that despite its marginality, the experimental film of the '60s and '70s, is not merely an isolated phenomenon, but represents the most radical experience and at the same time, the limit of modernism in Latin American audiovisual.
