The article analyzes the Design postgraduate studies programs in Latin America, having as its main discussion the cultural meanings present in the objects that repro-duce Eurocentric hegemonic cultures. A rescue of the values that are part of the cultural traditions of Latin American countries is proposed, or as Boaventura Santos calls them, those that institutionalize Southern Epistemologies, based mainly on the strong impact of prejudice and the hegemony of bourgeois, patriarchal and white cultural values in the industrial design, transmits to the current western capitalist society. Thinking from this perspective, the current scenario requires the need to broaden the criteria of knowledge in the 21st century, considering diversity, beginning with the recognition of an ecology of knowledge, which must be reflected in the Design research area.
