Social innovations refer to new strategies, concepts and methods whose main objective is to offer new solutions and to meet social needs and interests. They cover a wide range of possibilities, such as the development of educational materials in the health area, which are important communicational artifacts for health promotion and empower-ment of users and patients. Empowering people with disabilities can be part of the process of social innovation and concerns changes in self-understanding for greater autonomy and self-determination. However, a number of surveys that assess educational materi-als for these people often point to shortcomings such as poor readability and inefficient design with the target audience, often rendering them ineffective. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to indicate some health communication strategies, adopting the points of view of the Inclusive Graphic Design and Information Design pointed out in the litera-ture, which can be used in the design of innovative materials aimed at adult individuals and elderly users of the Brazilian public health system.
