LINARES, Santiago. Las consecuencias de la segregación socioespacial: un análisis empírico sobre tres ciudades medias Bonaerenses (Olavarría, Pergamino y Tandil). Cuad. urbano [online]. 2013, vol.14, n.14. ISSN 1853-3655.
Spatial segregation is a concept referring to the existence of differences and social in-equalities within an urban community, grouping subjects according to specifi c homogenous attributes which tends to foster inward looking attitudes and isolation from other social groups. This isolation and spatial class differentiation tends to result in social disintegration particularly harmful to the poorer groups. Typical problems that arise as a result of the ag-glomeration of poor families in segregated residential areas are poor school performance, unemployment, teenage pregnancy, social vulnerability, environmental degradation and a deterioration of habitat and housing.. This article analyzes the relationship between the intensity of spatial segregation and its impact on the quality of social, environmental and housing conditions in the Argentinean medium sized cities of Olavarría, Pergamino and Tandil during the nineties (1991-2001).
