DEL VALLE VARELA, Teresa e PEREMIQUEL LLUCH, Francesc. Compacidad, diversidad y flexibilidad en proyectos urbanos residenciales. Cuad. urbano [online]. 2014, vol.16, n.16, pp.27-50. ISSN 1853-3655.
Adequate urban building densities and a spatial pattern of diversity (typological and functional) are two desirable qualities in all contemporary urban residential projects. High densities understood as an antidote to dispersal, discontinuity and urban monotony, which deteriorates a citizen's quality of life, and is an essential condition to get the most out of public services and attain an adequate feeling of urbanity. Contextual diversity, understood as typological variety and volumetric fexibility, and a mix of land uses and functions as integrating elements of different social realities that meet the needs of high density habitats. With appropriate densities, greater spatial contextual fexibility and typological diversity is possible. In addition, some unique works of architecture based on a rigorous internal order and specific forms can serve as frame of reference building types that can be subjected to differing formal patterns capable of becoming prototypes for conceiving compact and diverse urban spaces.
