In this paper we show that the inclusion of certain objects in the surrounding may transform the relational dynamics and the meaning of the urban-space. By selecting as case study the Santiago of Chile's subway, we analyze the modes of reading related to the billboards of the competition "Santiago in 100 words". Itis used a qualitative methodologybased in ethnographic observation, systematized in feld notes, drawings, and photography. Through this methodology emphasis is given to the notion of "reading modes". They are understood as a variation in the dynamic of body movements and the way of using the space, especially, inside the subway station and the train wagons.At the end, a discussion about the emergence of new modes of reading, body gestures, and discursive positions in public space, is offered. Those aspects together imply the enlargement of the repertoire of possible practices in the subway network, and therefore in the city of Santiago de Chile.
