BIDEGAIN, Ana María. Christianity and Social Politic Change in Latin-American women. Soc. relig. [online]. 2014, vol.24, n.42, pp.00-00. ISSN 1853-7081.

During the second half of the twentieth century Latin American Catholic women saw the breakdown of the traditional female model, widely divulged by Catholic institutions, to reinvent a new one during subsequent decades. For many women this meant a maturation process that led them to consider gradual changes that are intermingled with social, political and religious transformations. The aim of this paper seeks to explain the process of female models' construction within the Catholic Action. It also aims to explore the way in which women experienced not only the breakdown of the traditional catholic women model but also the search of new gender relations together with the pursuit of social and political change. The analysis will focus on the experience of the Juventud Universitaria Cristiana (JUC) in Brazil, between 1950 and 1964, where this movement had its greatest development. The paper will also bring a sustained reflection on the narratives of some actors and actresses that participated in these changes.
