VAZQUEZ SORIANO, Mario Armando. "We come from the village of Dolores": The Fatherland´s Cradle in The Construction of The Mexican National Imaginary. Temas debates (En línea) [online]. 2018, n.36, pp.139-160. ISSN 1853-984X.
In Latin America the cities that are estimated as Fatherland´s Cradles are a key element in the process of nation building because they become holders of a patriotic myth that, in turn, transforms them into civic sanctuaries of nationalism. As with the city of Dolores Hidalgo, which is officially considered as the Cradle of National Independence of Mexico and, as such, is one of the main territorial identity references of Mexican nationalism. As the Mexican government revalues and exalts the priest Miguel Hidalgo as "Father of the Nation", analogous Dolores Hidalgo is presented as the place of origin of the Mexican nation. But this condition has not only meant that this city has lost its colonial urban past but also faced with other cities wishing to establish itself as the Cradle of the Mexican nation, as has happened with the cities of Mexico, Santiago de Queretaro, Iguala and Acatempan.
