This paper examines the relationship that political actors from six European countries established with a program of international comparative assessment of students' performance (PISA, OECD), based on two dimensions: (a) the adhesion of countries to PISA, giving attention to the narratives of ministers, heads of central agencies and PISA managers at national level; (b) the active reception given to PISA reports, taking into account the intensity of its convocation in universes devoted to the production of knowledge and policy. The paper highlights that the knowledge generated in PISA is mobilized nationally by a variety of actors from different worlds (from policy, the media, the world of research, the administration, etc.), allowing the legitimation of frequently divergent political opinions and decisions. In addition, the article emphasizes that although not generating converging responses in the policies set in motion through the PISA the OECD shows itself capable of converging political action in the use of hetero-monitoring as a modality perceived as appropriate to 'think, do, and tell' the current education policies.
