In the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, a common statement about the "new normal" has been installed as the prevailing socio-cultural condition of the time that would regulate and organize everyday life. UNESCO (2020a) has launched a global campaign whose purpose is to "challenge our ideas about what is "normal", suggesting that we have accepted the unacceptable for too long". This paper takes this as an opportunity to reflect on the challenges facing formal education, in order to review some features of the prevailing "normal" in the educational sphere, available before the pandemic, a phenomenon that unveiled conditions of production of the educational fact, while accelerating processes of dialogue with the current cultural keys that organize the contemporary world. The importance of the school as a privileged environment for establishing a relationship with the worlds that shape the world is highlighted, and the need to establish a new set of agreements on how to take on, share and give concrete answers to the challenges and opportunities of our time, with a view to the possibility of building a "new normality" in education, is raised.
