The aim of this article is to inquire how high school student’s “free time” in Buenos Aires became an issue by de facto authorities during the last military civil dictatorship. From the analysis of notices, resolutions and normative guidelines set by the Ministry of National Education and from the documents produced in schools, we will look forward to identify the interests of the regime towards it. Besides, some interviews to former students were carried out and students’ magazines were analyzed to contrast those voices with the state view showed in the official documents. The young’s free time became an area of conflict to the extent that the dictatorship tried to control it through out of school activities, which were infused with the official ideology. Within the framework of my master’s thesis, we worked around the documents and testimonies available in two school archives: The Normal School Mariano Acosta in the city of Buenos Aires and the Quilmes Normal School in the province of Buenos Aires. We are not looking forward to generalize, but to analyze clear examples of the state presence in daily life.
