The use of statistical information in educational research has gained renewed and growing interest thanks to the increased availability and accessibility of government secondary sources. Open access policies and the development of portals and data repositories by different state agencies have made it possible for society in general and the scientific community in particular to access data sources free of charge and without the need for high technical requirements. This article analyses the use of statistical data and the development of indices for the contextualisation, classification and analysis of educational and social inequalities in the framework of the PISAC-COVID-19 N°023 Project "The reconfiguration of inequalities linked to Argentinean secondary education in a pandemic/post-pandemic situation" (hereafter "the Project").

The article presents the use of statistical information sources as an input for decision-making at different points in the development of this research project and as tools for analysis based on the definition of a set of indicators and indices for the identification and comparison of the conditions of social and educational inequality in the territories under investigation.
