As we mentioned in 2020 for its 60^th anniversary, the Journal continues to achieve its foundational objectives: ensuring an adequate circulation of surgical knowledge through a rigorous selection of articles, with an educational purpose for authors and readers¹.

Nowadays, surgical knowledge has become increasingly complex and voluminous due to the introduction of new techniques and the fact of managing a greater amount of information.

Moreover, the inevitable appearance of sub-specialties stimulates the development of new publications with specific focuses that seem to deviate from the concerns of general surgery.

There is a need for a high-quality media that guarantees the relevance of knowledge produced in our environment and provides external validation for studies conducted elsewhere². And this is the understanding of national and international authors who continue to send their papers to be considered for publication.

During the evaluation and selection process, we come across extremely valuable scientific material that is both original and consistent. Nevertheless, it necessitates formal adjustments to align with current publication standards.

For this reason, in collaboration with Dr. Mario Iovaldi and the Editorial Board, we believe it is necessary to offer a new section in the Journal, called Concepts and Methodology, to serve as a support and reference for those who send us their manuscripts. In this field, as in so many others, only inaction is the path towards failure.
