Resumo

The paper proposes a description of the body of inspectors that worked in the General Teaching Inspection between the decades from 1930 and 1940. As the indispensable requirement to access the position was the accreditation of seniority, decisions about the regulation of the degree for access to the chairs shape certain characteristics of the organization and the work of the Inspection. For the purposes of its analysis, the definitions introduced by the Ministry of Justice and Public Instruction during the period under study in relation to three issues will be put into relation: a) the regulation of the degree for access to the teaching position at the level; b) the mechanisms for the provision of chairs; c) the characteristics of the inspector body and the distribution of tasks within the General Teaching Inspection.
