Empoderamiento y acción colectiva en producciones agroalimentarias con identidad territorial: Una experiencia de intervención universitaria en zonas urbanas y periurbanas en un contexto de inseguridad alimentaria y emergencia social¹. The study, analyzes a territorial intervention Program of the University of the Republic (UdelaR) Uruguay, originated upon demand of hundreds of unemployed neighbours without income, willing to receive support for the production of gardens and farm animals raising, and aiming to count on a basic food foundation, given the social emergency and food insecurity context resulting from the economic crisis that shook the country since 2002. Thus, the UdelaR, without prior experiences and with a strong student impulse, implemented the “Program of Food Production and Communitarian Organization”, for the support and service to the most vulnerable social sectors within the metropolitan area surrounding Montevideo. The interaction between university members and urban farmers, allowed the development of rich knowledge inter exchange, of collective action, of social nets strengthening and reinforcement of territorial food-producing identities. This territorial identities revalorization constitutes an effective strategy for poverty mitigation, as well as a challenge to transform the local knowledge into economic resources turning into food security, empowerment and social inclusion and life quality, in addition to conferring dignity and emancipation
