This work aims to contribute to the debate on proposed measures to mitigate the asymmetries in Argentina on two key aspects of the industrial policy: the distribution of the urban population and the location of the manufacturing industry. With a historical perspective and emphasis on the period 1970-2003, the interregional and inter-urban distribution of population and industrial activity, and the relationship between them is studied. Based on the literature and census data, it is argued that Argentina territorial structure presents a remarkable rigidity, to the extent that the distribution pattern of the urban population gestated before the First World War remained little changed until the beginning of this century and was replicated in the distribution of industrial activity.
