The study aims to investigate the composition of the sportive practice of tennis in Brazilian clubs, as well as to seek evidences regarding the methods used to teach tennis over the years. To do this, we resorted to bibliographical review and document analysis. All the information collected has shown that tennis practice was significantly developed in clubs and spread out to other social places. There are also evidences indicating that teaching approaches were experienced and transformed in clubs by coaches throughout the years.
