Introduction: At Academia da Cidade gym, hypertensive individuals carry out daily exercise practice, yet few studies addressing the behavior of blood pressure (BP) in these spaces have been developed. Another research gap relates to blood pressure response predictors. Aim: to investigate blood pressure behavior and analyze predictors during physical exercise. Methods: observational study carried out in December 2018, January and February 2019. Sixteen hypertensive individuals (58.8±15.3 years old) who do physical exercise at the Academia da Cidade gym. BP and heart rate were measured before and after each exercise session. Heart rate variability was assessed in December. One-way ANOVA and linear regression were used for analysis. Results: Systolic BP (SBP) at rest did not decrease over the months of observation. Between December and January, diastolic BP (DBP) at rest decreased (79.3±9.7mmHg to 73.0±7.1 mmHg, p=0.02, Cohen's D=0.77). In April, for post-training SBP, SDNN values (β:1.6, 95%CI: 0.3-0.6, p=0.0), RMSSD (β:-2.0, 95%CI: -2.3 - -1.5, p=0.0) and pre-exercise SBP (β:0.6, 95%CI:0.3-0.8, p=0.0) were predictors. Post-exercise DBP, LF/HF (β:-0.9, 95%CI:-4.2 - -0.8, p=0.0) and pre-exercise DBP (β:0, 8, 95%CI: 0.4-1.4, p=0.0) were predictors. Other relations were observed between January and February. Conclusion: Only DBP was significantly reduced. Variables of the autonomic nervous system, pre-exercise systolic or diastolic blood pressure and heart rate during exercise predict post-exercise blood pressure behavior.
