The assassination of French president Sadi Carnot by an Italian Anarchist caused great concern to the public opinión of the world. In Argentina, this news provoked the emergence of diverse representations of anarchism, produced primarily in the periodical press. In this paper, these representations will be reconstructed using the political press (from different parties such as Catholics, Mitristas, Radicals, and Roquistas) from various cities of Argentina. The hypothesis is that the varied and contradictory representations of anarchism were determined by the ideology and the immediate political context of the parties whose interests were defended by this press. What were the causes of anarchy and its violence, and how to face this challenge were the questions that based the production of images of the libertarians.
