The combination of conventional and non-conventional actions, space as an oper-ational environment, cyberspace as a militarized area, the incorporation of Artificial Intelli-gence and robotization in the Armaments, among many other 'novelties', constitute pro-cesses whose interpretation is neither unambiguous nor dissociated from the interests of specific actors. In this context, the article analyzes how relevant, as a strategic objective of defense policy in the 21st Century, the development of domestic scientific-technological and industrial capacities are, and it explores the main global trends as well as the dynamics be-tween industry and defense in historical perspective, and questions the conceptual bases of certain "conventional knowledge".
