The context of this research is China's growing economic role in Latin America and today's debates about China's negative or positive influence in the region. Its objective is to describe China's presence and orientation in the economic discourse of the publication Panorama of International Insertion of Latin America and the Caribbean of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). Two conclusions are reached: first, China's presence does not grow uniformly over time; and, second, the frames of China's problems and threats to the region are predominant in the 1998-2001 period. As of 2002, the frames focus on opportunities.
