Starting with the photograph as an object of study, several theoretical lines meet here which propose a pragmatic-phenomenological perspective. This paper follows our doctoral research in social sciences, in which we studied the social relationships that we build with and through images, which are far from being aproblematic. On the contrary, their meaning is the result of complex individual and social operations, starting from different meeting points between a spectator and an image. A link is proposed to the contributions of Alfred Schütz in visual studies on a journey that delves into the role of experience, awareness, and knowledge in the moment of positioning ourselves in front of a photograph.
